Proxy settings on AVG 2011 free install

I am trying to install the free AVG 2011 antivirus on my 3rd netbook in the house (all 3 are the exact same thing all running on the same systems) and the first 2 had no issues and now this one I can't get past where it is at "AVG Installer" and then it "fails" and asks to specify proxy settings - "configuration failed requires internet connectivity if your using proxy server specify settings"........ what do I do? I am using Mozilla Firefox just like on the other 2 netbooks. Windows XP. I would appreciate any help.

Do you use a Proxy Server for your internet connection?

If not, then have a look at Internet Explorer's connection settings.

I know you say you use Firefox, but this can have an effect.

Open IE, goto Tools > Internet Options, then the Connections tab. Click the "LAN settings" button. If there are any entries in there, make a note of them then remove them all. Click OK/Apply/OK. Test web connection with Firefox, then try installing AVG again.

Proxy server

thanks for the tip but there is nothing in the LAN Settings where you suggested to look. Any other ideas?

Server not found Firefox can't find the server at free.avg.com. * Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Hello schmeidi,

Download link provided works for me. Checked from two different locations.

If you can access all other web pages without any issues then it is possible that infection is blocking AVG site.

Try to download the full installation package on another computer, move it to yours via USB drive, and then update and run full computer scan.

Could be a virus.

I had the same problem. Try this
Firstly download and install malwarebytes from cnet.
do not run yet.
go to run and type "msconfig"
select "selective startup"
select "startup" tab
untick all apart from any anti virus you have "hkcmd" or "ctmon"
restart pc. Update malwarebytes then do a quick scan.
Follow instructions to remove anything found. You will probably have to restart.
Try installing AVG again.
Found the worm "conficker" to be the problem.
