AVG 9 Free

Hey,

I'm tryin to download the free version of AVG 9 and during the installation process the licence number is not automatically inserted. I have tried the back button and the link suggested in one of the other threads on here. I have Google Chrome brower is this a problem??? Do I have to use internet Explorer??? I'd really rather not. Any suggestions please?? Thank you

Hello HelenJayne,

could you please delete folder "AVGdownloadManager" from Temp folder? (open menu Start -> Run -> enter "%tmp%" and confirm OK) And check the situation again.

Else please use the full AVG installation file - direct link http://free.avg.com/download-file-ins-afg-free - instead of the download manager version to check, if installation will be then successful.

Another way how to download the full AVG installation file is second option on this AVG website:
http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download.prd-afg#tba2

This missing license number situation is not related with used internet browser. But version (status) of Internet Explorer could influence the next installation progress - I have met situations, where older (6.0, 7.0) and corrupted version of Internet Explorer caused uncompleted AVG installation. It is enough to keep the browser updated , not needed to use it or have it as default browser.

software compatability

Hi! I run a 64 bit, dual core processor. Is AVG 9.0 Free compatable with the 64-bit or the 32-bit or both? If I intstall AVG and Avast Free on the same machine (mine), will they conflict? Thank you, I'll check back to the blog tomorrow, I guess, to see if you've answered.

Hello,

AVG is fully compatible with 64bit architecture. Currently only one installation file for both architectures is available (it contains both versions).

It is never recommended by anyone that knows what they are talking about to run two or more active antivirus programs at the same time. The active components will conflict with each other. Generally you won't see the effects of the conflict but you will make both programs less effective none the less. Choose one antivirus program and uninstall the other one.

basic comparison of AVG Free versus pro versions is available on AVG Free forum and on AVG website. Generally, AVG paid versions contain full technical support (including assistance removing stubborn viruses) and extra components like advanced firewall, anti-rootkit and Identity Protection thus providing some extra layers of safety.

Using AVG Free provides basic safety. This seems to be sufficient for experienced user together with good browsing habits, regularly updated software (including operating system) and "think-twice strategy". It is likely that essential security tools like anti-spam and firewall will be provided by other free or paid products, but only the AVG Internet Security package ensures the best compatibility between these components.
