Hello,

First step is to have installed security software. Since these are AVG forums I can recommend the following.

You could try AVG Free:

Or if you are interested in more layers of security and professional support you can check AVG Internet Security which alread includes AVG Identity protection and firewall:

When you install AVG free, you must define some security issues:
Menu Tools: Advance setting:
Resident shield .... click Auto heal (default is off)
Scans ... scan whole computer: automatic heal
Scans ... scan shell extension: automatic heal
Sansc ..... removable devices: click Enable and Automaic heal (default is off)

In adition, the autoplay for removables devices must be on off (defaul Windows comes in On). For Vista go Control Panel (AutOplay)
For XP Pro (run Gpedit.msc), for XP Home using PowerToys TWeakUi

Finally, on the browser disable recording Forms and passwords of navigation.
