Downloading Installation Files Takes an Hour?

Trying to download AVG free version of antivirus program. It's been far more than an hour on the AVG Download Manager downloading Installation Files. Is this normal? Is it frozen? I checked the Windows Task Manager and it says the program is running, however I've had problems with freezeups on there before, one of the reasons my computer needs help.
Last night a giant virus attacked my computer, lots of error messages, lots of warnings flashing. I finally got rid of it by restoring the system to an earlier date but is it still lurking?
What did LOL .... running mean on my Windows Task Manager? Was that a virus?
Have had trouble for a very long time in trying to download ANY type of antivirus/spyware program.
Sorry for the multiple questions on ONE thread. If anyone can find a light at the end of any one of these tunnels, I'll be very grateful. Thanks very much.

Hi,

Please use the full AVG installation file - direct link http://free.avg.com/download-file-ins-afg-free - instead of the download manager version to check, if the download will be then successful (faster). The download process was probably interrupted by other active application on your computer (firewall).

Another way how to download the full AVG installation file is second option on this AVG website:
http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download.prd-afg#tba2

If you have issues with downloading antivirus program, please download it on another computer and transfer to yours on some removable medium.

I believe 135mb is a relatively large file for a dial-up connection. That might be the reason it is taking so long.
Maybe try getting it using a friends or school or library computer. All the schools or libraries I've been in are broadband and some libraries will now allow the use of a flash drive.
