AVG 9.0 (Paid Version) and Windows 7

For years I used AVG Free and was happy with it. Then I got a new computer with Windows 7 and Microsoft Security Essentials and as long as I was getting all of this new stuff I decided to buy AVG 9.0 so I paid $50+ or whatever it was and installed it on the new computer.
The Firewall for AVG would not work.
I sent a message to AVG support and got this long, comfusing email which I tried to follow but after 3 or 4 times I gave up. I sent another support message to AVG but got an even more confusing response.
I've struggled with these kinds of issues since I bought my first computer in 1980. I don't know why companies don't do one simple thing:
For every 5 or 10 (depending on the volume of traffic) "know-it-all" technical engineers / software engineers, assign a qualified and experienced writer to re-write everything that is meant for layperson reading. And that writer must be at the same level as the techies or else the techies will refuse to accept the re-writes.
AVG has lost two customers (me and my wife) forever because of this nonsense. Despite our both being loyal customers for years. But the responses we got to our question were not useable. How many other paying customers have been lost in this way?
I'm retired now, but for 30 years I dealt with brilliant engineers who, for some unknown reason, also thought they were brilliant wordsmiths. Not so. Abosolutely not so.
Apart from all of this, I think that any time a major operating system upgrade is introduced, all AVG customers should get an email which states (in clear language) what kinds of issues they might expect and what they can do about these issues.
