AVG9 Problems

Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8"
@AvgErrorCode_0x0020

Can anyone help. The above notice keeps coming up when I try to install any of the free Avg applications.
The download itself seems to go okay and it saves to my programme files, it's the installation that's the problem. I can't delete or uninstall the download either as the above code come up again.
I had no problems when I was using AVG8, it's only when I tried to update to AVG9.
I know the code says AVG8 on it but it comes up the same for 8&9 no matter whatI try.

Hi,
this issue is mostly caused by mishmash after system restore. It is needed to fully remove all remains of AVG and then install AVG again.

How to uninstall AVG:
- Download AVG uninstall/cleanup utilty and run it ( if running Vista or Windows 7: remember to right-click on it and choose "Run as Administrator"):

http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avgremover_en.exe

- After restart please remove these folders*:

Windows XP/2000
C:\Program Files\AVG or C:\Program files(x86)\AVG (for 64bit OS)
C:\Documents and settings\All users\Application data\AVG9
C:\Documents and settings\All users\Application data\AVG8

Windows Vista
C:\Program Files\AVG or C:\Program files(x86)\AVG (for 64bit OS)
C:\ProgramData\AVG9
C:\ProgramData\AVG8
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\AVG9
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\AVG8

Then install AVG again.

* Some files or folders could be hidden by default. This can be changed in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Show hidden files and folders.
(The location and names can vary, depending on the operating system version).
