Port Replicator for HP Laptop

Hi, everyone:

I have an older HP Compaq NC 6000 laptop. I would like to get a port replicator for it, so I don't have to plug and unplug all the cables when I go mobile. Anyway, I found a refurbished HP DC366B #ABA Advanced Port replicator for 24.99 at getpartsonline.com. I can't afford a true docking station, or even a brand new port replicator. Can anyone say how port replicators typically connect to laptops? It seems like I would need a cable, but can't find any info on what type to get. Then, I would plug my HP AC adapter into the port relicator, and then connect the laptop to the replicator with the cable, right? Sorry to sound somewhat lame, but I really have no clue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

There are two common models.

1. The real deal. The one made by the maker that comes from the maker.

2. The USB type things.

As such the first variety can use what the maker decided to use and the second is to let you use some keyboard+mouse+printer+other things but still has us plug in the power.

Here I plug in one cable for power when I'm home since everything is wireless and today I have a second cable since I'm using my cell phone in tethered mode.

Why all the cables?

Hi,

I have a printer and an external keyboard attached, so I guess it's only 2 cables happy My wired mouse is connected via the USB port on my HP external keyboard. Still a PITA, though. All my hardware is HP. My computer is so old that it's easy to find peripherals, and they're usually quite inexpensive. LOL.

So, do port replicators typically connect via USB?
