sporadic signal

have hp compaq laptop,cant afford phone line,have dongle but signal is sporadic as is btfon hotspot.have yagi external antennae which wraps around dongle but no better signal.will external wireless network adapter help,can i plug antennae into laptop,will anything help besides moving home.very frustrating,plus i'm new to this,old and stupid,thanks

All you can try: an external antenna on the outside of your house, with a cable to the laptop. Without a signal source you control yourself, or a hotspot with support that says it covers your home, it always will be difficult.

Don't they offer wimax where you live? That has a supported range of 4 to 10 miles. But it won't be free.

thanks Kees,most of the problem solved by hanging dongle out of window,signal not so sporadic but bloody cold. still looking for connector for antennae to computer.wimax in deepest hills of hereford!,i'll be dead by then,still it's all fun,o yes.forgot to mention,can see ruddy great mast 1\2 mile away,3 map says outside signal only,it must be flying right over my house.should send you a pic.you won't believe how close i am to mast.great forums thanks again

where are you connecting? do you know where the signal comes from? if you are barrowing signal from a nearby shop, dod they have wirless N or wireless G... each of these will make a difference on what you can do with a small budget

thanks tech mavin,have no idea what wireless n or g is but see above and you might have a closer idea to my problems.hereford council reckons it will all get better soon,yeh yeh yeh,put a repeater on the village church or something,its nearly as close as the mast so i hold my breath for future, haven't finished yet thou thank you for your time
