Dual Monitors and Docking Stations

Hello,
I am looking to buy a universal docking station for my XPS Studio 16 and I want to be able to have two monitors (both HD) hooked up to my dock with HD outputs. Every universal dock I have seen has only one display output. Do I have to manually connect a second display to my laptop every time I sit down? Or is there a way to set this up so I only have to plug in my USB to the dock? Thank you for any help you can give.

For this to be universal there would have a be a standard that allows such a thing.

So basically, since they do not make a docking station that works with the XPS Studio 16, I am out of luck? No splitters or anything of the like that will help? Guess it kind of surprises me that no one has come up with a solution for this.

You asked for universal but without a standard there isn't such.

Did you look at the SIDECAR at http://www.digitaltigers.com/sidecar.asp ?

It fails your requirements but hits a few of them.

Let's try this another way. Have you seen ANY system that does what you want? What was it?

If it is only video that your after, another option is external PCIe units that allow you to run single or multiple PCIe video cards externally to your system, something I was looking at some time ago but am after more connectabillity at the moment.

There are two that I'm aware of. The Startech model mentioned in this thread, and the Toshiba Dynadock U3.0.
They look almost exactly the same. I have had success with the Toshiba model with an Asus ultrabook, though you'll have to update the drivers for it to be acceptable. The dock has both DVI and HDMI ports, and it's very poor for gaming if that's what you're going for. Availability of both docks is an issue right now.
