HP Mini 311 Hardware essentials for minimalist use

Trying to see what minimal hardware can run this netbook: Several questions regarding the HP Mini 311 -
(if your answer applies only to a certain model/subset of the 311 series, please give the full model#)

1)- Can the HP mini 311 run from AC only, with the battery taken out?

2)- if the HDD is taken out, can the HP mini 311 boot from SD card?

3)- if the HDD is taken out, can the HP mini 311 boot from USB CDrom/DVD?

4)- regarding #2,3 above, which OS could be booting that way? Linux? BART-PE? other?.

5)- is there a hardware difference between the NVIDIA ION LE for XP in earlier or cheaper 311 models and the NVIDIA ION for Win7 in the later or pricier models, or is the difference only software?

2. Didn't try that. Used USB.
3. My mini of a different model did that.
4. Linux. Windows was never good at USB boots and while there is some hacking page about it, I won't mention it ever again.
5. Sorry. I had this old mini so I can't write why I'd be attracted to another when there are cheaper units out there.

Boot options HP Mini 311 - and NVIDIA specificity

what was the model of your prior Mini? just in case, so your answers could be used for that model.
Also, what cheaper units are worth it? The only cheap netbooks I've seen are Android.
They do not include software for writing text (except inside an email)... do you know any one that does?
Adding software in Android tablets/netbooks is not a guaranteed succes...

I@ [everyone] - in the meantime -
I'm still hoping to get answers specific to my post from Hp Mini 311 users or technicians...?

What cheaper unit? I picked up a NEW laptop for 280 that is great. My mom needed a laptop so we spent 199 and she's back online.

Is the money an issue or is there some other goal here?
