Hello, everyone. I hope you are all well.
I needed some help on some battery issues with a Gateway KAV60. It used to have a battery life of about 3 hours but now it had reduced to just one. I need it for taking notes and, therefore, need a better battery life. So, what can I do to increase the battery life (apart from the general tweaks like reducing brightness)? I am mainly focused on hardware solutions but if you know any useful things to do with the settings (like the brightness) you may as well tell those. Since it used to have a better battery life, is the problem the battery? If I buy a new one, will that solve the problem? Or, is it because the computer itself has "aged"?
Any help is appreciated.

No the battery tech did change but you can't use the new stuff with the old laptops.
Externals are great but did you pop a new battery in?

It's good for about 300 cycles and about there it's about 1/2 the hours. How old is that battery?

As Robert mentioned, most batteries have a 300-cycle(full cycles) in them. So, if you drain it to a 1/2 charge and then charge it, you have 299 1/2 left. In more practical terms, it boils down to 1yr. of use is OK then possible problem, at 18mos. some problem is seen or appears and all during that time, the battery ages and reduces the full up time of battery life. Excluding any fault with the netbook itself or charging apparatus, get a new battery. If you haven't yet, some batteries do have recalls for whatever reason, so its worth the support website visit.
