The three options:
1. New disk.
2. New motherboard.
3. New netbook (or laptop or tablet)
Your choice, depending on the price also.

Hi Kees, thanks for your message. In your opinion, do you think it's worthwhile getting hold of a boot flash, or better/cheaper with a new disk? I take it if I go with a new HDD there will be no OS on it so I'd have to start from scratch (sorry I am not very experienced at this)

What do you mean with a "boot flash"?

New hard disks, indeed, don't come with an OS. You have to reload that yourself from the recovery media that came with the netbook or that you made when everything still was fine.

There is a recurring story with netbook owners that opted not to buy a DVDRW USB DRIVE that allows them to make recovery media. Later they might complain about the cost to reinstall the OS.

I think I've read about a lawsuit over this as well. But it appears you will need at least the new HDD, the USB DRIVE and recovery media from the machine's maker.

Should be cheaper than a repair counter.
