Netbook LAN wireless range - any concerns?

I'm shopping for a netbook and wonder if netbooks have degraded wireless LAN connectivity compared to laptops.

I would think that they are comparable until I read a review that said that particular netbook model was good because it could connect up to 50 feet.

That raised a flag for me because my laptop is fine in my current environment, but a 50 foot range might be problematic if a netbook has worse connectivity performance.

I searched and didn't find any mention that netbooks are any different as a class compared to laptops. (I can appreciate that there are individual differences, of course.)

Any one have an opinion or experience on this topic? It's a pretty important data point in my buying decision.

The bottom line is one laptop may fare better than another. Same for netbooks. If it is a REAL ISSUE you can always buy some wifi usb dongle and CANTENNA?

Since I posted my note, I've been almost non-stop researching and reading reviews. It seems that some netbooks are better because they have better wireless chipsets, and some problems were fixed with driver updates.

But nowhere have I read anything about limited reception for netbooks as a class, so I guess the single review that raised a flag was probably anecdotal.

On average, I retire my computers after 8+ years, so I put a lot of time into making a good buying decision. Thanks for all the invaluable info found here.

The only problem with a netbook

Is that it makes a poor laptop. It would be agony to use that as my only PC. Yes I can plug in a real keyboard, mouse and display.

Re your reply about connectivity--how do I get a usb dongle and cantenna? Or were you just kidding? I need help to get wi-fi on my netbook but my router is far away.....thanks for any help, Pups

You would buy such things. Only those that want some over 100 foot connectivity would want such a thing. But asking how to get such may not have been your real question. But let's say it was. You would go shopping and buy the parts.
