I'm off to uni at the end of this year and i'm going to need a laptop to do work on while i'm there, but i'm thinking of getting a gaming laptop so i can keep on playing games in my free time. I've been having a look around for a while but i'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of choice there seems to be, so i was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions of where to start? Any websites that are particularly reasonable in terms of price? Stuff like that. I'm prepared to spend over £1000, i want something thats good quality and can play the latest games, Battlefield 3 particularly. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

The problem is I don't consider most laptops to be of any high quality today unless we look at the Panasonic Toughbooks followed bu the nice Apples. After that we get into a discussion about quality but for your usual gamer, we nod to this and the XPS.

I've heard a lot of different things about Alienware, some positive and some negative, personally i think they're over priced, and i don't want to be carrying one of those chunky monstrosities around all day to do work with. Also wondering if anyone has any opinions about this site: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ Their prices seem pretty reasonable, and just playing around with the specs on some of their laptops I seem to be able to come up with machines comparable to some of the best Alienware ones for several hundred less.
And I've read complaints there too.

The problem with the cheaper no-names with no service centers is you get 2 years down the road then discover there are no parts in the system to fix your machine. Names like Dell, Sony and others do repair machines for a few more years.
Repair costs will drive any sane owner mad and have them write badly about that issue.
