Need opinions on what tablet to choose

by rishijd - 1/11/13 2:46 AM

Hi,
I have an iPad3 (i.e. the 10 inch) and I use that mostly for social and gaming. I'd like to buy a mini tablet like a Samsung, Google or Asus. My priorities are:

i) The main thing I'd like to do is scribble and type my notes into a tablet. I haven't found a good app for this on iPad but maybe I need to look harder, but my current pen on ipad (third party pen) is more round and it just feels more comfortable to write on actual paper when working. As a side question, can anyone recommend good apps for the iPad to take down notes or type them? Possibly two different apps depending on whether I want to type or scribble, but any recommendations are welcome!

ii) The other thing is that I want a more lightweight tablet to carry around that can check mail and just use for better internet connectivity on a larger screen.

iii) I also don't mind reading books or my PDFs on my tablet, but to be honest I hardly ever do this on my iPad as I use my desktop more for that kind of stuff at the moment.

iv) Importantly the tablet should be up to date on its operating system (for example some Android phones cannot be updated to the new O/S, but some like the Google phones and Samsung S2 / S3 are updated over to the latest Android version).

Given my priorities - what are the best recommendations on tablets out there? The ones I'm beginning to look at are:

i) Google Nexus 7 - cnet says this is one of the best 7 inch tablets. Any comments from personal use? Any comments in relation to the above?

ii) Asus Transformer Pad Infinity -

- this is totally new to me (I just read about it now on cnet) but wow it looks amazing.

iii) Samsung tablets - is 7.0 plus and the 8.9 the latest small tablets? These don't seem to include the stylus.
I've heard that, for note taking and scribbing, the samsung stylus is the best - but the smaller tablets above don't seem to have one, is that correct?
What would you reocmmend from the above or are there newer/other tablets that I haven't mentioned above that suit my requirement?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
