Resolved question

which should I get android based or 8 Pro based OS tab?

by LogicProphet - 10/31/12 8:45 AM

So I'm in the market for a replacement of my 9" Acer Aspire One. I'm a full time IT student and avid gamer that makes less than a modest living. Still after years of dragging around a very heavy netbook I'm going try and spoil myself this one time. I'm interested in the tablet market but my needs and wants are varied. So here's what I really want the system I invest in to do.

Play PC version of Minecraft
allow me to run VM ware or other virtual clients
run android apps
remote access to my desktop to play my higher end games
HDMI and USB outputs
micro or full SD slot
run MS office suite or be compatible with it.

I've come up with some set ups researching the net on the latest tablets to come and the ones in the market

Acer W510 rumored to be 599 with keyboard
1.run blue stacks to run my android apps
2. install MS office
3.install a remote access program to play games that are on my desktop
4. install minecraft PC version
5.install VM ware

My fear here is that it runs on a dual core atom processor I know no benchmarks are out yet to gauge performance but my experience with my net book has me weary of it being a slow and choppy for my needs. I have yet to read a decent review of any remote desktops. Also so far my experience with bluestacks I've yet to get it to run my android games well or if it'll run nicely on a windows 8 touch tablet.

My other option is the Asus infinity with keyboard currently I'm looking at spending somewhere around 700 for it which is very high for my budget

1.it will already run my android apps
2.comes with an app compatible with office suite
3.splashtop can run as a decent remote access and so can Kainy for gaming PCs

My problem here is I'm not 100% sure the remote access from splashtop or kainy will run my minecraft PC version smoothly when I try to play multiplayer server and I don't think I'll be able to run my class VM programs. Also the cost is as much as my desktop which I'm not too keen about.

I know I'm doing a comparison to a 1st gen of hybrid that hasn't been released yet so this is more of a hypothetical discussion. I'd like to know your opinion on which set up I should go with or offer an alternative. This is more for the sake of me learning something I overlooked.
