Need advice on my next ereader please.

Love reading on my ereader - have a Sony Daily Edition. Only thing I don't like is the gray paper background, it really annoys me, this is nowhere near the white of a real book so I never understand the praise for e-ink. That being said, I've read a ton of books on it, its over 2 years old now so I'm looking for something else.

Kind of leaning toward a Nexus 7, but then I hear that for reading books, this will irritate my eyes... I work all day on a computer, so I wonder if I am acclimated enough to not get eyestrain...

Its pretty much between the N7 and Ipad mini... I figure I can maybe surf a little w/o dragging my 15" laptop upstairs and downstairs all the time, but this is primarily for my LARGE selection of epub books. So what I want to know is:

Can I put all of my epub books on these?
Can I read my books on the beach or in the sun easily (ie: no glare)
What is the most comfortable to hold? Maybe silly question but I'm 57 and read a lot in bed - the mini looks a little wide for hand held comfort but not sure.
Can I buy books online from pretty much anywhere and load them.

I like the whole idea of the Kindle paperwhite - if the Sony had that, I wouldn't be looking YET. But I do NOT want to be restricted to buying my content from one place.

Anybody have any opinions here? I'm not necessarily against the Nook HD either, but leaning toward Nexus.... again, primarily for reading epub books, surfing secondary. Thank you in advance!!!

As to glare I'm going to write you'll hate it. I picked up my N7 and it's very shiny. More of an indoor reader. The KF HD 7 here is shiny too.

If you can't control your lighting, you won't like these.

Reading indoors isn't so bad on backlit tablets

My wife has migrated to an iPad, so I can tell you that it's definitely doable. We moved her whole library over from an older Nook via dropbox. And her eyes are a lot more sensitive than mine for glare, etc. For basic black/white text reading, the Nook/Kindle are just as good however. Anything else and you can benefit from having the horsepower/better screen of an iPad, etc. As Bob said though, bright light reading is a no-go unfortunately.

Unless your collection is multiple gigabytes (which for most folks is unlikely), your whole library should fit perfectly.
The Android tablet & iPad mini will both handle all types of ebook files from different sources, although it will require an app or two to get it just right. What constitutes 'most comfortable to hold' is still very subjective. My wife's full sized iPad works just fine for her needs- I don't see why a smaller tablet couldn't work as well. YMMV.

FWIW, you would not be limited to content from Amazon if you went with the Paperwhite, btw. It would merely mean you would have to convert certain types of ebook files found elsewhere in order to view on that particular device.
