E-Book readers forum: Kindle Fire or Nook TABLET???

"These models are close to identical in thier techincal specs. Both have a
dual core 1 mHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a large assortment of apps
to augment your machine to your personal needs.

The decision of
which model to get finally boils down to which brand you believe in the
most. At the moment, Amazon is still holding on to the largest number of
titles when you combine thier selection of books,periodicals, audio,
and video content. Some people don't realize how much of a giant Amazon
really is and you don't have to worry about the Fire being "ad
supported" like other Kindles.

However, since Barnes & Noble
implemented Netflix and Hulu Plus, the functions of each tablet ereader
are also identical. Formats that each reader can read are the main
difference. Kindles use mainly the proprietary Amazon file extention and
Nooks are more open-source being able to read Adobe ePub files. Both
have access to store with more content than you'll ever need. The
Kindle Fire features free 3G (and wifi capability) which will keep you
connnected with all your online content constantly without the use of
computer at home or anywhere you go. The Nook Tablet will only offer
wifi access so if you are on the move, you can't download new books or
view online content."

The nook is a bit HEAVY. Pick one up. I think it's pretty well made but the cost of media at BN is a bit rich. HOWEVER I did install the real Android OS and now have access to both my Kindle books and BN content.

Angry Birds and other games work.

I purchased the Nook Color a
couple of months before the releases of the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire were
announced. While I'd probably like the Nook Tablet even more, I've been very
happy with the Color.

and Nook Tablet over the Fire, in my opinion, is the SD card slot for memory
expansion. That in itself is worth the extra $50 for the Tablet. You could run
out of storage room and have to replace the Fire sooner than you think. (But on
the other hand, comparable tablets might be $40 by then. Just kidding, but
isn't that almost how it goes in the fast-developing tablet market?)

superior screen clarity when compared side-by-side with the Fire. Both feature
beautiful screens, though.

library system? One thing that made me purchase the Nook instead of a previous
Kindle was that I could get books from the library for it, but not the Kindle.
Amazon has finally caught up to B&N and is now making books available to
libraries, but check with your library to see if it supports either if you're
interested in this option for free e-books.

<div>Since cloud storage is one of your questions,
I'll address it as best I can. I haven't tried it and probably don't intend to,
but B&N's Nook page states, "Plus free NOOK Cloud™ storage keeps
everything safe & secure. We've got you covered."

<div>One thing I really like about the Nook is the
free in-store (in person or by phone) support. I usually find my way around
electronic devices fairly easily, but found their free "class" worthwhile.
Saved me time from mucking around trying to get to know my new toy and
discovering some of its capabilities, and the instructor was knowledgeable. All
in one hour while sipping a cup of coffee in the store's caf.

<div>Like you say, dkaragozian, Amazon does have a
bigger selection of apps and books (but B&N offers tons). I don't
think you'd go wrong with either of your choices. They're both great and they
both have their advantages.

I have the Nook Color. I chose it over the Kindle Fire because it has a micro sd card slot and with an "N2A" card I can read my Kindle books on it, as well as any Nook or other books I have. The card I mentioned makes my Nook a full Android tablet without voiding the warranty by actually rooting it. It can be used as an adroid or a Nook, although I only allow it to go Nook when I'm in Barnes & Noble. You might check on whether a similar card exists for the tablet.

Personally, I so hard to decide which gadget to choose, so I'd better go to the "traditional books."
