I had a Slick (discontinued by Borders) previously, which only downloaded books from my computer. I had to press a button to turn pages, and the battery life wasn't great, but it was inexpensive and worked fairly well. However, it did not have any other apps. I've now had a Nook Color for a few months, and I really like it . Battery life is superb, and it opens and functions like an Android phone. Of course, it works best with Barnes and Noble, with book cover art loading in color in the Library. Books downloaded from elsewhere may not show up in the main library, showing up instead one of the other book files, but they all get there and load on the Nook without difficulty. Also it's fun to have other apps, like crosswords and Sudoku for those times I'm sick of reading, and the he Nook feels solid, with a thin profile that makes it easy to stow. Optional case available fits like a glove, as well. I'm not fond of the fingerprints on the screen, but they're easily to wipe off on the glossy screen.
