E-Book readers forum: Help me decide what to buy my teenage girls for christmas!!

Too limiting with their meager performance capabilities. The Intel Atom processor in any of its flavors to date is just too anemic for anything beyond basic single-task surfing and email, and even then it can still be painfully slow. I use OpenOffice on my Acer netbook and it can really be a dog, especially as files get filled with content.

Despite its deficiencies my netbook is perfectly suited in my workshop, where when I'm stuck figuring out something while I'm working on my cars or my guns or any of my other hobbies and need to Google some advice or instructions up. It's decent enough in terms of performance to see video how-tos like those often posted on YouTube, but you can forget about it if there's something else already running in the background.

Like Bob Proffitt says, a small-form notebook computer or an iPad will do what you ask of it far better.

Make-or-break is right. If, by e-reader, you mean a true e-reader with an e-ink display, then forget it. The e-ink display cannot show video of any kind. It's just too slow. Most e-readers cannot browse the internet at all.

Clothes are always cool. You could also give some CD's or electronics or you can get some stuff from Bath and Body works. Also, you can't go wrong with gift cards or cheques to a favorite shop.
