1. it uses A LOT of battery when the brightness is up all the way, and you have wi-fi on.
2. yes, it is heavy for a tablet/ereader, but it does more than the kobo or kindle.
3. if you had done your homework and look at the specs before hand, the idiot at borders could have been corrected on the spot.
4. boot up is a bit long, but i've seen worse.
i suggest you trade it in for a new unit. it sounds as thou the unit you have has problems. for the most part, the cruz reader is an excellent temp tablet for the price - i paid $119 at best-buy, but borders has it for $109. remember, it's an e reader first, android tablet second. the borders app will ONLY READ BORDERS DOWNLOADED E BOOKS! if you have e books already, you will need to find an ebook reader app online. Also, the market place app on this unit IS NOT THE ANDROID MARKET PLACE app! so apps are limited.
i opened up the unit just to have a peek inside. i was (happily) surprised to discover the wi-fi card was a B/G/N card, and it had an internal removable MINI SD card. i assume this is the card that all downloaded stuff goes to by default. i am going to remove it and put a 16gb card in its place to increase storage capacity. i think it just needs to have the content from the original card copied to the new card.
internet was also surprisingly fast. i am able to piggy back onto open networks in my area that i was unable to get on my expensive laptop. the browser included was not very good. skyfire is the best for this unit. flash doesn't always work, that's because andriod 2.1 did not have it installed.
The unit operating system CAN NOT BE UPGRADED (unless you are really good at hacking).
i can go on, but need to get back to work.
Again, for the price, this is a good unit to hold you over till the better units come out in a year.
