Two good laptops...Each with their own shortcomings. Advice?

by bjr990 - 11/30/12 9:39 AM

Hello cnet Companions!

I am a college student, however due to a good job which gave me my work laptop to do with what I wish, I now have two laptops. I am going to list both laptop specs here (I believe this is everything meaningful, if not I will locate it and provide it). I am currently running Steam on Laptop #1 for gaming and am having some issues.

Laptop #1
Name: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Processor: AMD Phenom II N620 Dual Core Proc. 2.8GHz
RAM: 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, 3.74 Usable
OS: Windows 7 HP Edition
Video Card: AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Sound Card: ATI HD Audio Device
Hard Drive: 500 GB

Laptop #2
Name: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC
Processor: AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.9 GHz
RAM: 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, 3.48 Usable
OS: Windows 7 HP Edition
Video Card: AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6480G
Sound Card: AMD HD Audio Device
Hard Drive: 500 GB

I have no problems running something like TF2, however games like Saints Row: The Third and Metro 2033 will not run smoothly no matter the settings. I was told to try my computer out on canyourunit.com and when I do this for Laptop #1 I get a FAIL for the CPU, everything else was good. I went to the same website on Laptop #2 and I got FAIL again but this time the CPU was good and the FAIL was caused by the Video Card.

So, cnet, my questions come here:
1. Can I exchange either the CPU or Video Card from one laptop to the other?
2. If the switch can be done either way, which computer would you suggest making the gaming laptop?
3. Any link for a decent set of instructions?

I have done a ton of electronic assembly (not on computers, but I have worked with wiring/soldering/stuffing motherboard for 5+ years so I don't have any qualms if the instructions are good enough.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and replying, I will update with results if it is possible and people are interested.
