Hi, Thanks for any assistance. The optical drive has stopped working. It has that laser whatever nonsense that never was a factor in the purchase but there it was. Anyway, I need to replace it and can't find anything that is referenced as manufacturer/model compatible. Is there a generic DVD/CD RW drive that I can install? I feel incomplete....

You'll want to pick the unit you are comfortable with. For me I can buy the cheap unit with no faceplate and use the old one.

Others need that plus full tutorials. If you think it will help, look in the CNET Laptop TroubleShooting forum and we have a sticky post dedicated to Toshiba disassemble.

Figure under 50 bucks.

Thanks Bob for the very quick response time. I look forward to the adventure of removing old and installing new. I feel young again!
