New hard drive for 3 year old laptop?

Hi, I need some advice. I have a 3 year old Toshiba P305-S8920 that I like. In the past 2 months a start up file has gone missing or been found corrupted and resulted in me running recovery, it's a PIA.
The most recent was yesterday and it's still in recovery mode. My question is this; Should I replace the hard drive? I can replace it for right around a hundred bucks and add 250 gigs to the storage. I guess the info I really need to know is whether or not this will fix the problem, or if I'm throwing good money after bad.
The machine came with Vista, has plenty of RAM to run it but I run Win7 on it.
Thank you for your information!
