setup with the SSD is the OS will be installed on the SSD which will result in 2 to 5 times faster booting of the device. The benefits of an SSD drive are the read times are WAY WAY faster then your typical HD and write times don't have as big a difference. The cons is the tecnology is newer and less battle tested. But if it's any indicator the new Macair book is coming out with no optical drive and no hard drive. It's going SSD only. A SSD drive has no moving parts so it doesn't cause as much heat and takes less power so it helps with batter life. If upgrading to a SSD the older laptops have SATA II and some of the newer SSD's are compatible with SATA III but they will work with SATA II just you won't get the speed advantage of SATA III over SATA II.

a 256 SSD only with no HD. I'm not encouraging or discouraging a SSD drive. If an SSD drive is used right in conjunction with a HD it will last longer. The power of the SSD is the read times. With a 32 GB SSD it's going to be basically the OS.

I have been using SSD'd for the last 18 months with success so it's worked out for me. If that go south then I will thing about an alternative plan. I like to power down my machine while I'm at work because to storms in Florida. I also restart right away after software updates. I do let it sleep at night because i have scheduled tasks that run.

I also have 2 SSD's so I can pop one out to test Windows 8 then pop the other in to run Winodws 7.

32 gb ssd

so the option for 500gb hd with a msata 32 gb ssd means that the os will load off of the ssd automatically making boot times of the pc faster? if that is true how do i set all that up? ive never really messed with hardware so if i get that setup is there anything i have to do to get it up and running off of the ssd while using the hd?

just used my cloning software and moved the original 750 gb to the 2nd bay and put the SSD in the 1st bay and it booted using the SSD.

see i definitely know there are better hard drvies but im getting an alienware and already at the brim of my budget so thats why im asking about those 2 hard drives.. they put e right under the budget. i just need to know if there is a big difference between the 2 hard drives ive listed above... and if you need a list of what im saying the at alienware.com build your own m17x and under hard drives im deciding whether to keep the default hard drive or the one right above the alienware recommended one.. as i dont really need more than 250gb of space anyhow lol

But I'd skip that 500GB version as the benchmarks while still better are handily outdone by the next gen model.

It's not a matter of the GB but why you are considering this type drive.

just considering it due to it being int he bidget and a lil more expensive than the default hard drvie haha not really sue of the benefits and cant afford anything better so just wondering if its worth it atm

it does for 50 extra bucks for a decent upgrade ill def grab it haha.. i know i should get better but i just cant afford the real good ones and a laptop i want so ill stick with slightly better
