Problem transferring hard drive data using IDE/SATA cable

My hard drive on my old laptop died and I bought an IDE/SATA cable to transfer the contents to my new laptop. However, upon removing the hard drive, I found that the wire doesn't fit the hard drive. There seems to be an extra component on the hard drive making it not fit.

Anyways, I am FAR from an expert at this - in fact this will be the first time I've ever attempted this so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The HDD is still in it's tray.

I'd remove the HDD from that tray and adapter next.

I can't seem to remove it from the tray. I can't seem to see any obvious screws. The 'how to's I've watched don't ever seem to show an extra tray to remove so I can't seem to work out how to get it off.

Sorry if this seems a bit dumb. Thanks for the help!

But I don't have any detailed instructions for this one. The HDD is in the tray and adapter so you wonder if this is a new person that has never unplugged this before. That is, I found it to take 20 to 30 pounds of force on some models. Compare a bare drive to this one to see where it unplugs.
