Hi,
I have a HP G60 Laptop. Just removed from box and I get an error msg "#10008 - replace HD". Called HP and will not honor since out of warranty. Yes, believe it or not, they didn't believe that this was just taken out of box 2 years after purchase(don't ask why why it was not opened for 2 years after purchase). I am going to price out a new HD. If I buy one, what software do I need to be able to use it on this laptop (or what do I need to do). Never had the opportunity to create any recovery disks. Thnaks for your help.

Pull the HDD and try it in some desktop for testing. I hate to write this but HP destroyed a laptop of mine in warranty and I'm out a laptop (HP never resolved it in warranty.) There was an effort later but as they failed, I disposed of the laptop.
My thoughts? FIRST TRY THE GENERIC RESET, and TRY THE GENERIC RESET after each idea.
1. Pull the HDD and put it back in and re-test.
2. Pull the HDD and test it in some other machine as you don't want to buy a HDD when the problem is elsewhere.

Hi Bob,
Tried all and no luck. I was not able to try it in another laptop because pins were different.
Is there anyway I can get a boot disk? Would that help?
Any other way to confirm HD is bad?

For example I use UBUNTU on CD/USB when I need to boot a machine up.

This should be a common SATA drive. Could be cheap. Example?

Just in case you need to install a new HDD, you need to buy HP's recovery disks to install everything that was on the old HD (like Windows and drivers and applications).

Thanks to all. New HD and recovery disks and all is working fine. HP was no help at all with this. I will have to think very hard about buying another HP.
