Can a PS3 be used on a laptop with an HDMI port?

I'm new to the world of HD content and gaming, and I just bought myself my dream laptop :] The laptop of course, has an HDMI port. After doing some research, I found it is apparently impossible to connect the PS3 to the laptop with and HDMI cable without causing serious damage to the laptop as both have HDMI out ports. I also read somewhere that to make this possible perhaps an HDMI switch would work. Any expert advice? Will I still fry my laptop if I try this? More importantly, will I have to go out and buy myself an expensive TV specifically for gaming? (something I definitely don't want to do just yet), Pardon my ignorance.

Folk seemed to love trotting out the rare and never seen laptop with HDMI inputs. And while Black Magic does have some HDMI input device a GAMER would never be happy over the lag it caused.

You are not ignorant. Such a laptop is not easy to find and so rare, let's go with no.
