But you can try an USB keyboard to see if there is some other issue. I've done that on many 1500 series.

The keyboard and motherboard are the only 2 parts at play here. I find many can't plug in the flimsy keyboard flat ribbon so have others check your work. The other part is very expensive (motherboard.)

Inspirion 1525 keyboard

Thank you very much for your reply. I will check the Bonus Material in the Laptop Troubleshooting Forum.
I have plugged in a wireless external keyboard, so at least I do not have to use the on-screen keyboard!

Could it be possible the "new" keyboard I installed was defective? Perhaps I should get it checked. Or, as you say, the flimsy flat ribbon may not be properly installed/secured.

The only dead keyboards I encountered in over 10 years
