Laptop hardware component & upgrades forum: My dv7-3085dx

How ironic that just today while working with MS Word, my touch lights for wireless and volume started to flicker. NOW there is no lights at all. WTF is up with that ?? I certainly hope this is something very minor or I will never buy another HP.

Head to hp.com, use their chat to see what to do next. Sadly I see a lot of dead 17 inch laptops that were used as laptops. That is, used by students to trudge around daily. At this size you want to keep it on a desk.

But back to HP for their idea. It's free to ask. What I think it is, has changed with your new symptom.

I do take it with me daily in a very well padded case which usually just sits on the floor of my vehicle and not move till I get home. Virtually, no banging around or vibration and definitely not even close to a student. What is a laptop for if not to be portable yet gently cared for ?

That this type machine does not bear up well to such transport even with the gentlest of owners. The dv7 units I see are flexy and that flex is not helping life span.

It's amazing how many I see out there in the world daily. Saw a lady using one just yesterday and mentioned my issue. My Toshiba P25 weighed in at nearly 10lbs, built like a tank. I am going to refurbish it with the best upgrades I can get for it and make it my mobile unit until such time I find something else.

Laptops while nice are compromises. While some like those old Armada's were tanks, the weight and COST were much higher.

If you want to transport a laptop daily, you can get by with cheaper but have to accept shorter lifespans at this price range.
