Need Help connect my Laptop hard drive to my PC

The other day I bought an External Enclosure so I could connect my lattop hard drive to my Pc desktop. What I am wanting to do is use the desktop because it has access to the internet so I can update the programs on the laptop. When I tried connecting the two it did not allow me to access the laptop to update the program. Well I guess really I do not know what I am doing.

So can anyone explain to me how to do this if it is at possible. I know very little about computers so I need all the help I can get.

When you connect what is a hard drive with an OS installed on it, to any other computer as a spare drive, that OS just becomes a number of files. It is no longer an OS and cannot run as such.

However, that doesn't stop you using that hard drive to copy update files to it. Then you reinstall it back into the laptop and run those update files

But the better way, two possibles, is make the laptop internet capable, or simply find the files off the internet with the Desktop, transfer those files to some flash drive or CD, then copy them off that onto the laptop.

If this is the common Windows OS then there is no support to run it over USB or update it in the manner you proposed.

Is the external enclosure connection to the desktop by USB?
Is it made for a laptop drive or a regular 3.5 drive?
Does the drive show up on My Computer?
Can you do a directory of the laptop drive?
