Does it make sense to replace a screen on Dell XPS16?

by andhddn - 2/12/11 5:42 PM

Hello,

I have Dell Studio XPS 16. The only thing I do not like about it is its non HD screen 1366x768. Recently I succeeded to replace a screen in another laptop and now I am thinking about buying on e-bay an HD screen or RGBLED HD screen for XPS16. I know that Dell used to customize these laptops with such screens.

On e-bay I see ready entire screen assemblies or just the screen replacements. If I buy just a screen do I need to buy something else like inverter? It looks like buying just the screen will require disassembling and disconnecting things like web cam. If I buy entire assembly is it much easier like plug and play?

I also read that if I have RGBLED then its quality deteriorates with time unless I have some kind of sensors. I have no idea about what are those (some keywords).

Any hints from those who succeeded to do such replacement are welcome. Probably it is easier to buy a used one with proper display and sell mine.

Regards
