Upgrading a Toshiba Hard Drive

I am trying to upgrade the internal hard drive for an A305 S6857 Toshiba laptop. It had a 320 GB SATA MK3252GSX and I am trying trying to switch to a 500 GB SATA MK5059gsx internal drive. they are both 2.5" drives. I am having issues with the new drive. While running the toshiba recovery discs the install will hang at installing the intel wireless network card. there are also several error messages regarding the digitally signing of the drivers. microsoft programs such as windows mail and updates will not work. I am wondering if there is a change to the mother board or a different group of settings that need to be changed for this drive to work properly. I have checked the recovery discs and they are fine. any help would be great. Thanks

I upgraded by Toshiba laptop this past fall, from a 200GB to 500GB. I used cloning software that mirrored the old drive onto the new one (installed into an external USB housing) and then simply swapped out the old drive for the new one. Windows (Vista) booted from the new drive just fine and all drivers worked just fine. Why would you have to reinstall anything just to put in a new drive? I have the old drive set aside as a back up should the new drive ever fail. That was months ago and all is well.

I did preform a back, up to an external hard drive, of the old drive. I was planning on restoring from the back up. I placed the new drive in the computer and ran the start-up discs and set up as a new out of box condition. This is where the problems started. Is there a step in this process that I missed?

If you have a back up (a clone) of your old hard drive just write the back up to your new hard drive. It works flawlessly and you dont need the recovery disk. If you didnt clone the hard drive, use Easeus Todo Backup and make a copy of your old hard drive. Its very easy to use, here's the link to download it. If u have questions just lemme know.
