Netbook is very slow - need some advise !

Hi,

My sisters netbook needs a lot of time starting certain programs ... skype and firefox stall the netbook and one waits minutes until everything is running - if at all. Apart from that IE is just not starting anymore (only run as admin). I somehow got the feeling that its not only the startup that's slowing everything down.
I really appreciate any kind of help to try some things that might solve the issues so she can use the netbook again without problems.
