Why is my computer freezing?

Hi shocked

I'm kind of new here and I don't know too much about computers but can anybody help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated:

The power goes often where I live and now recently on a new laptop the screen freezes whenever the power goes but ONLY if I'm connected to the internet. If I'm not connected the screen doesn't freeze.

Is there anybody out there who can help?

It could be a myriad of things, since you have normal function powered and off line, I'd perhaps suspect a bug/malware. If you have consistent power outages (not a good thing) you might want to consider purchasing an APC unit (battery back up) but check the specs and capabilities, they aren't cheap but might save your system from getting cooked by a voltage spike.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply back but it was due to unavoidable situations.

So, you suspect a bug or malware? Do you think anti-virus software could detect and remove the malware?

As for the APC, like I said I'm NEW to computer hardware but it looks like some kind of smart UPS to me. I don't live in the US now(that should explain the powercuts) but I do have a UPS. (Its currently being used for a PC)

Regarding its occurrence, I don't understand what you mean. Hardwired and wirelessly? My laptop is connected to the net using a modem(broadband) with a built-in router. (ADSL) So, I presume that counts as hardwired. As for wireless connection, I don't have Wi-fi on this laptop.

Do you have any troubleshooting recommendations?

Try this, using a clean computer, download MALWAREBYTES, send it to a flash drive, boot the laptop into safe mode, install MALWAREBYTES, using the flash drive, run it and see what comes up. Usually what I do is to download MWB, save to file,(downloads or documents) and load to FD from that location, leaving the MWB in doc/download file in the system for future use, other media, systems etc.

Does this occur both hard wire and wirelessly?? Another thing to try would be to go to someone else's hook up and see if the effect is the same. I am just assuming since this is a laptop that you are running off of a standard wireless router hook up.
