hp pavilion dv2500 - W7 set-up unable to find HDD. Why?

Hi, I did a search but found nothing that was of any help so posted a new thread.

My HP Pavilion DV2500 hard drive (with Vista) recently died so I bought a new HDD and decided it was time to upgrade to WIndows7.
However, windows set up is unable to find the new drive, it shows up fine in BiOS but is nowhere to be seen when it comes to installing Windows.
I've pulled it out and reinstalled the HDD a dozen times, and even tried a different HDD just in case the new one was faulty.
I've been at it for the past 7+ hours and I'm still having no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.



Sorry for the double post, replied in another thread before I noticed that thread was for a different laptop.

It turns out that the BIOS is not picking up my new SATA drive, I just saw it in the BOOT DEVICE list and presumed that it was reading it.
The BIOS DIAGNOSTICS page actually states that there is "NO IDE DRIVE"

IS there any way to make the BIOS look for SATA instead of IDE? I've been through it and not found anything.
