I work 'Tier I' tech support focusing on 3rd party commercial wifi connections. Frequently I come across a situation where a laptop user at a hotspot ends up with a self-assigned IP address and can't connect to the hotspot network through their wifi connection. Resetting their DHCP settings doesn't resolve. Enable/disable wifi doesn't fix it. Repositioning doesn't fix either. Forgetting network doesn't work. Proxy settings are not set. Power cycling doesn't resolve the issue. I have asked coworkers about a possible resolution and the best they can come up with was either "refer to manufacturer" or send it up to the network team as a low signal issue. Is there a desktop support quick fix for this or does this really need to go to the manufacturer/network team? Thanks for your time and help with this!
