Laptop troubleshooting forum: inverter/ backlight problems

thanks for your help. i changed the tube aswell and im still getting the problem. is there anything else it can be?maybe its a dodgy lamp i dont have another screen to test

At the top of this forum is the stickies with bonus material. I apologize if this is beyond many folk as they don't have the required DVM and more. For those, it's time for the shop.

does the motherboard have a fuse that is maybe been blown

But you and your DVM could answer the power issue in about 3 or less minutes. No DVM means you are unlikely to fix it as you can't tell where the issue is.

It's like car repair. Very hard to fix a flat tire if you are missing the lug wrench.

Sorry but without such and not measuring such you can only swap parts without knowing which it is that has the issue.

And that fuse? How would you find it without the DVM? And then you would need a solder iron and all the other things.

I think using an external is the best solution here. Repair may exceed replacement costs.

i am buying a new multimetre tomorrow and i have all the equipment here soldering iron etc. im trying do work it out without going to the shop. trying to learn having an external sreen kinda defeats the purpose of a laptop. dont you think?

I think a laptop with an external screen is a great way to eek out another year from the hardware.

Again, at the top of the forum are posts with bonus material from the fix your laptop book. I can't teach how to use a DVM here but that basic skill is one the would be repair person must have.

There is another cause I forgot to mention. The lid switch or detector (varies with make and model) if the lid switch is stuck, then the laptop keeps the lamp off.

the littlte glass tube has been taken of? i was wondering y the laptop wouldnt go into sleep when i closed the lid lol. live and learn

You may be onto something. I wonder why it's missing. But it makes me think of the story about a laptop someone was trying to fix. After them working on it and asking me many questions we found out it was an insurance write off.
