I have this dell laptop for about 3-4 years now and am really pleased. But yesterday suddenly the monitor flashed and stopped working. I work with two monitors generally, another plugged-in the laptop, so now i'm using the monitor instead of the laptop's screen.
Interestingly when i restart the computer the laptop's screen flashes and shows the Dell logo and then flashes back into being black.
Does anyone know a way to fix this and if not atleast what the problem might be?

Seems an issue with the built-in graphics hardware (there's a very small chance it's the driver). Showing that Dell logo is built into the BIOS and doesn't really count as prove that the hardware is fine.
With the graphics hardware integrated on the motherboard, this means a new motherboard. And, for a laptop 3-4 years old, that means either a new laptop or use an external monitor only.
That's how I look into it. But I hope for you others have more positive news.

Unplug that external, then perform the generic reset. It's at the top of this forum but the short version is unplug AC, remove battery, press hold the power button for 60 seconds, release, slip in battery, apply AC and boot it.
Do not add that external display after the reset.
