HP Envy 15 screen suddenly has glowing green areas

Traveled by bus with laptop in overhead rack in cushioned case. But upon arrival found the screen very crazy with neon green smears next to pictures, type, etc. A techy took one look at it and said, "Flex." I can see where the flex runs from main computer to screen, but don't know how to disassemble the screen from the computer and can't find a replacement part or parts. I'm in Costa Rica and the local HP place won't do anything but check everything and clean the keyboard for a very high price. No repairs! The warranty ran out six months ago. Is it possible the problem is not the flex (connection from video card to LCD screen)? What can I do to test for other problems? Where can I find disassembly instructions? Maybe I can find a lose wire or something.
