Laptop troubleshooting forum: No power to laptop. Tried new charger and even new m/board

The place I bought the motherboard from was just a supplier. Also I wanted to add was that the third motherboard was from a different supplier. So thats 3 motherboards with no power. I have also bought 2 separate chargers.

I'm quite proficient at changing laptop motherboards so although there might be some mis-steps, I doubt it. I didn't use a volt meter but as I said the two m/boards were fully tested before delivery.

It's a basic item in electronics repair. Must like screwdrivers and such.

I realise this but as I thought as it was going to be essentially a new motherboard install rather than a repair and it had been tested (by a trusted the supplier) I didn't need one. I was hoping that someone would have some suggestions on what else can effect charge or power other than the main board, otherwise I'll bite the bullet and take it to a repai shop.

It seems to be failing out there in a similar way to the prior 8600M. Whenever I see a dead laptop with the 8400/8600 and the 9400/9600 I strongly urge the owner to move on. They usually fail again due to what it is. I don't want to upset anyone but this is not a model you can rely on.

PS. Why the aversion to getting a Volt meter? Handy thing for many tasks.

Ah sorry, I have no aversion, its a good idea, was just trying to say why I hadn't used one yet.

I could understand if one motherboard had died due to having the 9600m but now that I've tried three (which as I've said were tested) surley it something else effecting the power for example the processor cooling, or power panel, although I still don't understand really how that would effect power supply.

I mean the 8600 problem. If you research that you come away with "how can this industry continue?" or another question like that. I'm running into units that appear to have finite life spans of just a few years. The ones with early versions of the GPUs seem to be common here.

I can't answer your question for a simple reason that I can't touch the hardware or use my Volt meter to check the basics. There were a few boards that when the CMOS battery got too low, it would appear dead. Again, we use a Volt meter to check that out (sorry to repeat that tool.)

Thanks bob, I really appreciate your time. I understand its hard to give any answers without physically looking at it. I was just trying my luck, hoping there was an known issue before taking it to a shop. Haha this may be the first time the internet hasn't solved all my problems. I'll post here if I get a result.
