Laptop turns on and then off after a few secs

by notg - 2/28/12 5:41 PM

Hi everyone,
I have searched the web for answers to no avail that is why I am posting here.
I have an iBUYPOWER CRZ-92 her which has been used for about 3-4 years. Recently when turned on, the fans start working for a couple of seconds and then turn off, the power button is still lit and the hard drive light flashes few times as well, but at the end nothing happens; the screen remains blank (does not even show that something is about to be shown) and if I press the power button once, the laptop turns off completely (I don't even have to hold the button for 4-6 secs to turn it off).
I tried opening the back of the laptop, per recommendations that I found online, to take a look at the power, fan, etc. but I could not open it completely. Is there any way that I can fix the issue without having to open the laptop? If not then how can I erase the hard drive content to put it up for sale?

I appreciate any and all help.

These are the specs that I found online:
