Sudden loss of all browser & email functionality

On a 6 month old HP DV... laptop that's been running just fine. Sudden loss of internet browser & email functionality. Tried Firefox, Internet Explorer, Thunderbird; do not connect. Get a message that the application for this icon is missing, but the application appears to be on the hard drive. All non-internet apps work just fine. Suggestions???
