i acquired this machine only recently,knowing there was a problem with the screen.have no real idea of its history.sometimes it starts up ok and have got as far as browsing the previous owners pictures before the screen becomes frozen.this was an ebay purchase from a dealer and was my way of getting into a hobby cheaply and to find out more about hard drives,ect. my knolage of computers is extremely small.the ad said it mite be a connection problem. you people amaze me and any help my way is gratefully appreciated.i dont mind having a look inside it .thanks,from old and stupid.

Did you go to google.com and research something like:
How to clean your laptop with canned air on the vents?
Sorry about the ebay comment. That's usually a bad sign and why folk sold the machine. That is, repairs exceeded what they wanted to pay out.

my younger sister (50)lent me this hp compaq im using now as a get go job,she put a new screen in this herself and told me to pull me finger out and learn something quick(she wants it back).im on everything i can to to learn,see sporadic signal,laptops forums,is cleaning the first step before buying a new screen.thanks bob,i know im making you laugh
