DELL Vostro display problem

Hello,

I have a dell vostro with Windows Vista Ultimate. Since yesterday, my laptop is sending the display to unknown screen. It works perfectly fine in the safe mode and responds well to all keyboard operations. But does not show the display. I have already tried the following:

1. Fn + F8 key - no effect
2. Driver update for graphics card -no effect
3. Remove and put the battery back - no effect.

I would really appreciate your help!

While in safe mode use system restore to yesterday or the day before that?

Thanks for your reply. I have been trying to do system restore but was not able to do because it wanted to run chkdsk before allowing system restore. I scheduled it to run chkdsk but it did not run it so I am in a bit of chicken/egg situation. sad

The good news is that vista ultimate.

That rarely comes with a machine so I'd boot the Vista Ultimate DVD and follow Microsoft's instructions at link.

Pay attention and read the entire thread as it notes "If ChkDsk does not run at startup in Vista".

Hi Bob,

Finally, I was able to fix my problem. I fearfully un-installed the nVidia graphics display driver (even though it did not complain about any problem) and rebooted. While booting up, windows automatically reinstalled the driver and the problem vanished.

I would try to run the chkdsk as recommended in the link you sent.
