Many makers lock the machines to the maker's battery due to liability issues, however if an owner leaves a dead or defective battery in a laptop it is possible for the charging circuits to fail. This mean the next parts are the wall adapter and the motherboard.
There are only 3 parts to the system so I always change the cheap parts first.

Sounds like a typical D C JACK problem.(You MUST be more careful handling. It is NOT a toy)
You can buy ten of them (the jacks) from CHINA for less than ten bucks shipped. OR. you can buy the whole sister board (comes with VGA+USB ports) for about $150.00 from DELL..
I think i will start collecting these for parts.Every thing breaks and if you can't repair it yourself it gets VERY hard on the wallet....====Do you want to sell ? ?
