Dell Latitude C400 netbook won't connect to wireless network

Hi, bought a Dell latitude C400 netbook off ebay fro my daughter, plugged it in, started up no problem, but says wireless connection 3 not connected, when i right clicked on it a page opened up wireless connection 3, choose a wireless connection, click an item on list below to connect to wireless network in range. In the box it says..
NO WIRELESS NETWORKS WERE FOUND IN RANGE
MAKE SURE THE WIRELESS SWITCH ON YOUR COMPUTER IS SWITCHED ON.
TO SEE AN UPDATED LIST, CLICK "REFRESH NETWORK LIST".
When I did this it just says the same thing, can anyone tell me where the wireless switch is!, my modem is fine as the laptop i'm using is working.(no it's not a Dell laptop)I had no trouble setting my current laptop up to wireless.....Thanks Debi.

could be a function key also. On my Dell mini 10 netbook it's F2, by head.

Anyway, Dells should come with enough instruction manuals (either on paper or on the CD) to tell you how to enable/disable wireless on them. Disabling wireless makes sense to lengthen battery life; moreover, if you take it in airplane you're instructed to turn it off. So there must be a way.

The thing about Dells that people forget.

Is that you need to turn on the WIFI with Dell's QUICKSET program. Even the FnKey calls that to turn it on. Tell me about QUICKSET.
