Loss of Audio

I have a Gateway NV-52 with a AMD Athlon 64x2 QL-64, 15.6" screen, 320GB drive, and 64 bit Vista, 4gb of RAM, and ATI HD 3200
Everything was fine until windows updated to the service pack 2 and i was unable to hear anything from the speakers and the audio jack was not recognized. it seems to be the only thing that was messed up. I also tried to install the audio driver but it did not work. i also tried to see if windows update would fix it but it did not.

Please help, Megaherz

That's a fairly new system. Sadly, laptops and audio problems often end with a failed audio system (hardware) and a new motherboard. If it's a software issue the owner often has to reload the OS to the factory load.

There is also the owner/pilot error where I don't blame the owner since no one seems to give a great manual or web page about sound settings. Look at this picture from Media Player at http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view¤t=WMP_Speaker_NOT.jpg

it was only in the HDMI icon. It was the only icon that was there and the one for the headphone and speakers were missing.
