Cursor jumps all over while typing
by 1Chris - 7/16/09 8:52 PM
While I'm typing on a Dell Inspiron 700M, the cursor jumps all over the place at random. All of a sudden the text will appear before the word I'm writing, at the top, wherever.

Problems with Cursor.
Your suggestion worked magically. Thanks for your advise.I just recently noticed the problem occurring with my computer, perhaps after I downloaded Google Chrome, which I downloded recently.
turn off your touch pad and it wont happen if you look right above your touch pad there should be a tiny button that will turn it off, mine will move the cursor by just a strong breath, if you would like to thank me proper send email to email@example.com
Cursor problem cured now
The touchpad blocker software worked. My sanity is restored. Thanks
There's more than one thing going on here
On a Dell Inspiron running windows xp:
I tried the touchfreeze software but it didn't work
What fixed the problem was changing mouse settings.
From control panel, select mouse and then, on the "pointer options" tab, uncheck the box for "enhance pointer precision"
SOLVED - TouchCheck fixed this for me
I have a Dell E6410, use the pointing stick only and have the trackpad turned off. I had exactly the problems discussed here...drove me nuts, just like everyone else with this problem.
I tried fixing it with "Enhance pointer precision" but it did nothing in my case. I tried various other pointer and trackpad setting in the ALPS/Dell Dell TouchPad software. Nothing helped until I checked the box for TouchCheck under pointing stick options. Checking that box corrected the problem, unchecking the box restored the problem.
Under the ? icon, it says TouchCheck "will help prevent unwanted pointer movement or clicks." It somehow desensitizes the pointing stick. Worked for me and I'm truly relieved.
problem sloved follow the step
control panel ---- click on hardware and sounds----mouse--buttons----click turn on click lock---click pointer option look out for snap to click automatically move the pointer to default button on the dialog box....next click hide the pointer while typing show the the location of the cursor while pres the control key
Touchfreeze worked for me too! SWEET!
I had to post up to give thanks on this topic. I tried all of the things in this topic and none worked until I tried the Touchfreeze program and BOOM it worked! I was nervous at first and thought it may be a virus but it turned out to be awesome and only took a few seconds for me.
The only thing I do not like about it is that I don't know what the actual problem was. I wish it would point out what it fixed. Regardless, I'm a happy man now. No more jumping cursor.
i thought the same
ha, i was worried i was downloading a virus also, but I did it anyway and it worked automatically! I am amazed I can type this message without the cursor jumping! I am so happy right now!!
Cursor jumps all over while typing
In my previous response I said that the solution is to de install and re install from a fresh copy the Internet Explorer 8. I forgot to mention that ANOTHER option to try before de-insttalling it, is to de-install fisrt the IE8 updates and try to install them again, but the BEST is to remove IR as well completely
I have a working solution for cursor jumping!
There is a program called Touchfreeze. It disables your touchpad while you type. It's free, takes a second to download and has cured my cursor jumping entirely. No, I don't have anything to do w Touchfreeze - I don't work there, or anything like that. I stumbled onto it, almost by chance, and gave it a try. So far, it has worked out PERFECTLY and my cursor hasn't jumped once.
Just google touchfreeze and go from there.
OMG Thank You
Ok I think it worked I am actuall typing without the problem ocurring thanks I almost had a nervous breakdown over this.
Cursor Jumping Fix for my HP
Since the post is long and numerous options offered, the one that worked for me was to use "TouchFreeze" thing that I downloaded from the url posted in these posts:
Thanks for providing this!
Jumping cursor on Dell
I had this problem with my dell. The power adapter was putting out a little to much voltage. I changed the adapter and it solve the problem for me.
VAIO Windows 7
My VAIO doesn't have a touchpad icon, but this worked for me (knock on Formica):
Start/Control Panel/Mouse/Pointer Options/Uncheck the "Hide pointer when typing" box.
Haven't had the pesky cursor jumping problem since unchecking that box.
Install an updated driver from Synaptics
I was able to fix the problem right away.
go to laptop vendor site, download BIOS, touchpad updates
i started to have the same problem after installing windows 7 premium downloaded via torrent on my HP laptop after replacing a bad hard drive. I don't know what the problem actually was, but it went away after I went to HP support website, downloaded and installed BIOS, touchpad driver, intel driver etc for my laptop model.
It could be virus in BIOS, then the BIOS update probably refreshed it out. Or the touchpad driver from HP fixed... just want to share this experience. hope it helps a little.
have the Dell Inspirion and I have the same issue... I wonder if this was caused by a a microsoft update..
Please email me when there is a solution for this issue..

Another option is to disable the touchpad whilst typing.
