My current laptop is dying very quickly and I need to at least order one within the week. Here are my requirements:
Price: below $1000 would be nice but I can go up to $1300 if I have to
Processor: i5 or i7
Hard Drive Space: 150+ gigs
I would like a convertible, I work as a designer and I need to be able to draw and carry it around at the same time so I definitely need a touch screen that turns into a tablet in some form. Stylus support as well. Battery life is not as important, I tend to keep it plugged in the majority of the time. Size also doesn't matter, I'm used to a 12" laptop at the moment.
This will be a primary laptop for home and business use. Please please please any suggestions at all are welcome. I was looking at the Asus Taichi, but the cheaper model I can afford doesn't have enough memory. I was also looking at the Lenovo Twist, but that doesn't have stylus support.

The current touchscreens look to be good for finger painting. Most folk that want to draw use the usual method or get a Cintiq.
Touch screen does not mean fine drawing.

About 7 years ago I actually got a convertible HP laptop that worked extremely well for the work I needed it to. Because of my work, I tend to carry around my tablet, which I haven't been able to do since that one took a nose dive thanks to a roommate. I can't stand the tablets that connect to computers because I have to carry them around, it's just not something I can work with after that. There has to be SOMETHING out there that's just as good as the 7 year old model I had.
That was a resistive screen.

Today's models are capacitive sense units and be sure to test it. I have and it feels good enough for finger painting.
